Being mindful…….I am getting quite good at this if I do say so myself! I am now able to channel my thinking and discern what’s worth paying attention to, how to use the time allocated to be being mindful, to solve work and life problems or simply refresh my mind and be blank. This is the greatest revelation: I have far more capacity for blankness than I ever thought possible! And sometimes I really do stare at a wall, feeling revived afterwards, like I have had a power nap. Most of all, I think I have become more grateful; for small things such as the parks, the peace and just being alive! How nice for time to not fly by for once; how nice, dare I say it, to have the luxury of being bored!
I want to conclude this post by ending it with this by the late writer David Foster Wallace, “Bliss – second-by-second joy and gratitude at the gift of being alive, conscious – lies on the other side of crushing boredom….Ride these [times of mindfulness] out and it’s like stepping from black and white into colour. Like water after days in the desert. Instant bliss in every atom’.
Be happy. x
