Just be happy! Regardless of what’s happening around you. That may be the simplest and most straightforward advice I am going to give this year! I think as a race and I am talking about the human race, we’re too busy focusing on the ‘if onlys’ and don’t live in the here and now, because we foolishly believe if only so and so happened, we would be happier……….but I am here to tell you that’s not true, well in most cases.
Strangely enough I came across a report yesterday that echoed this exact sentiment. I found it very interesting to say the least. It stated that apparently winning the lottery wouldn’t make you any happier than you currently are, and becoming a paraplegic probably wouldn’t make you unhappier than you are. Daniel Gilbert, a Harvard psychologist, states; “The fact is that a year after losing the use of their legs, and a year after winning the lottery, lottery winners and paraplegics are equally happy with their lives”. How could this be? I hear you say. Experts have found that most of us maintain a certain baseline level of happiness, and outside events usually won’t change that. After a period of adjustment to a good or a tragic event, we generally go back to where we were. I will leave you with that thought……………….
