Today’s Scripture Sunday is based on 2 Corinthians 3:17.
For a long time in life I was ostensibly successful, but I didn’t feel successful. I felt overwhelmed, stressed out, unhappy! I was unhappy because I lost sight of what was truly important: I was unhealthy (I had gained two stones over two years!), my relationships were in shambles, and I wasn’t passionate about life—all of which I attempted to cover up by amassing more possessions! Sadly, I didn’t realise all of this until last year when I had the opportunity to travel the world with my babi. Shortly after returning home, I discovered the life I created was not for me. So from then, I started making radical changes—refocusing my relationships and asking difficult questions about my life’s direction. In time, I realised I was not pursuing my ‘purpose’ nor was I growing as an individual or contributing beyond myself in a meaningful way. So I quit, I quit my job but more importantly I quit my old life. It was the first time in years, I actually felt free.
All throughout the Scripture, God’s mission was to bring freedom, life and blessing to those who followed Him. When Jesus walked the earth, it says He went around doing good, bringing healing, and setting people free everywhere He went.
If you feel overwhelmed by the pressures of the world today, remember, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! When you constantly focus on external things: distractions, worries, and cares of the world, they become bigger in your mind’s eye. But when you focus on what God has given you: peace, freedom, and abundant life, those are the things that you will see manifest in your life.
Today, focus on the right things by setting your mind on things above. Declare His goodness over your life. Sing a song of praise and thank Him for His hand of blessing. Remember, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. So focus on Him and focus on freedom!
